The Sri Lankan Navy rescued six Indian fishermen on Monday after their boat became stuck in Lankan seas owing to a technical error.

Fishermen from Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, went fishing in the sea. 532 boats departed Rameswaram fishing harbour towards the sea. However, Sagear Pandian’s boat encountered a technical snag at the Indian-Sri Lankan maritime boundary in Palk Bay. The six fishermen on the boat, Saravanan, Alexander, Anthony, Sasi, Murugan, and Subbiah, attempted but failed to repair the problem.

Furthermore, the boat drifted into Sri Lankan seas due to the force of the wind.

When the Lankan Navy officers noticed the boat on their maritime border line, they promptly dispatched a patrol boat to the location. They enquired about the boat that had drifted into Sri Lankan seas and afterwards attempted to fix it.

However, the attempt to fix the boat was useless, so they phoned the boat’s owner, Sagear Pandian, and described the situation, asking him to dispatch a rescue vessel.

After receiving authorization from the rescue team, the owner of the boat despatched a rescue vessel from the Rameswaram Fisheries dock to bring the trapped fishermen and the boat.

The Sri Lankan Navy used a rope to pull the Rameswaram fishermen’s boat and pass it over to the fishermen who arrived in the rescue vessel and sent them.

The trapped fisherman and their boat were returned to Tamil Nadu.

Rameswaram fishermen hailed the Sri Lankan Navy for their humanitarian aid in rescuing the trapped fishermen and the boat in the middle of the sea.
