India’s daily COVID-19 cases cross 17,000 mark for first time in 120 days

Till now 13,029 people have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, leading to a rise in the recovery rate to around 98.60%.

India reported around 17,336 new infections (crossing the 17,000 mark) in the last 24 hours. Thirteen fresh Covid-related deaths were also reported, taking the total number of people who lost their lives due to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic to 5, 24,954.

As per the state-wise data, Maharashtra on Thursday reported around 5,218 new coronavirus infections and one death. Out of these cases, Mumbai alone accounted for 2,479 fresh infections. Delhi recorded around 1,900 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the positivity rate to 8.10%. The state of Karnataka recorded 858 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. Bengal logged around 745 new cases while the state of Telangana reported 494 infections. As per the sources, Gujarat saw 416 fresh Covid-19 cases. 151 cases were reported in Goa, 114 in Chhattisgarh, and 38 in J&K.

Since this week, India has already seen a rise of over 48,200 new infections. The daily cases reported had already crossed the 12,000-mark for the entire week. However, on Tuesday there was a drop in the number of Covid-19 cases and around 9,923 fresh infections were reported.

On the other hand vaccination of over 13 lakh doses was done on Thursday, out of which 3.77 lakh comprised booster doses. Over 3.23 lakh children between the ages of 12 to 14 years were also vaccinated with the first and second doses in the last 24 hours.
