People from all over the world gather for events and activities.

Every year on April 29th, International Dance Day is held to honour this incredible art form. The International Dance Council first announced it in 1982.

On this day, Jean-Georges Noverre, the father of modern ballet, was born.

The goal of International Dance Day is to encourage participation and educate people all over the world about various dance forms such as tap dance, belly dance, ballet, and popular Indian forms such as Bharatnatyam and Kathakali.

The Bharatanatyam dance form originated in Tamil Nadu and was developed by temple dancers. It is one of India’s most well-known traditional art forms, and it is now widely exhibited both domestically and internationally.

In the 17th century, Kerala saw the birth of Kathakali (meaning “story play”). Most Kathakali plays are based on stories from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
