In the Makerkote region of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban, near the site of the recuse operation, a segment of an under-construction tunnel collapsed late last night.

The search and rescue operations have been halted due to the new landslide. Mussarat Islam, the District Development Commissioner stated that the incident was unexpected.

“We weren’t expecting something like this (an occurrence in Makerkote in which a piece of a mountain collapses),” he remarked.

Two equipment have become stuck beneath the landslide debris.

As per the reports, the rescue operation was hampered by windstorms. A total of 16-17 hours of operation were squandered. However, a new assessment will be required.

One worker died, while nine more are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble. Yesterday, three injured people were evacuated.
