Ayman al-Zawahiri, leader of Al-Qaeda, was killed in an airstrike by United States, President Joe Biden stated in a televised speech on Monday (local time), saying that “Justice has been served.” Al-Zawahiri, one of the most wanted terrorists in the world and the planner of the September 11 attacks, was killed on Saturday in a US drone strike in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.
In a video speech, Biden made a statement from the White House’s Blue Room Balcony stating “The emir of al-Qa’ida, Ayman al-Zawahiri, was fatally struck by an American bombing on Saturday in Kabul, Afghanistan, which was carried out on my orders. This terrorist leader has been removed from power after justice was served.”
Since he is no longer with us, we will make sure that nothing else occurs. “He will never again, never again, let Afghanistan become a terrorist safe haven,” he continued.
In addition to playing a key role in the planning of 9/11, Zawahiri, an Egyptian surgeon, served as Osama Bin Laden’s personal doctor.
A senior Biden administration source told reporters over the phone that Zawahiri was killed in a drone attack while standing on the balcony of a home in Kabul and that there were no American troops present in the country at the time.
