Almost 34 government schools have been closed by the Assam government. Senior education officials said that all government-run schools with 0% pass rates will be closed (in Class 10 board exams). However, because these children’s futures are important, they will be offered the opportunity to enroll at adjacent high schools.
Officials attributed the poor performance to interruptions brought on by the epidemic as well as teachers in many schools who failed to give kids their complete attention. Additionally, it was claimed that the switch from last year’s formula-based evaluation to this year’s physical board exams resulted in a steep fall of almost 40% fewer pupils passing the finals.
AAP responded angrily to the decision to shut down the schools. “Shutting down schools is not the answer. Simply said, we need to start many additional schools around the nation. Arvind Kejriwal, the mayor of Delhi, tweeted that rather than shutting the school, “upgrade the school and make education proper.”
Recently, Assam government enlisted the aid of IIT Guwahati professors to train the staff of underperforming government institutions. According to Mamata Hojai, director of secondary education, a strategy is in place to merge all of the schools with 0% performance with nearby schools before the start of this academic year. After such appalling outcomes, there is no justification for allowing these institutions to continue operating.”
According to Hojai, the procedure to combine four of these schools has already begun, and the pupils and faculty members will be transferred to surrounding secondary schools.
