The number of persons killed in the Kentucky floods has increased to 28, and rescuers are still looking for others who are still missing as the area braces.

Governor Andy Beshear stated on Sunday, “Our confirmed count of Kentuckians we’ve lost has now reached 28 and we assume that there will be more, and that number will climb.”

According to authorities, deadly flooding on Thursday was unprecedented and inundated multiple homes.

Governor further quoted saying, “We’re going to continue discovering dead for weeks, many of them swept hundreds of yards, maybe a quarter-mile plus from where they were last.”

Over the next 24 to 48 hours, rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are predicted nationwide, while localised locations might get as much as 4 or 5 inches. Concerns about floods can return with as little as 1 to 2 inches of rain, especially in places where the soil is already wet after severe rain.

At least 25 people, including four children, have died as a result of the flooding in certain areas of eastern Kentucky, and the number of fatalities is sure to rise as search and rescue efforts continue.

In the counties of Knott, Perry, Letcher, and Clay, there have been documented deaths.

According to county coroner, fourteen persons, including four children, were pronounced dead in Knott County on Friday.
