Khalistan slogan were chanted by followers and members of the Shiromani Akali Dal on the 38th anniversary of Operation Bluestar.
Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi ordered Operation Bluestar to remove Jarnail Singh Bhinderwale and other armed insurgents hiding inside the golden temple. The operation began on the 3rd of June, 1984, and ended on the 8th of June, 1984. A total of 150 militants and 490 civilians were killed, with a number of others injured.
Protesters waved Khalistan flags, banners, and posters and sang “Khalistan Zindabad” in support of independence, advocating for a separate state for Sikhs in “Khalistan.” They wore saffron T-shirts with Jarnail Singh Bhinderwale’s face on them.
To maintain peace and order, tight security has been given across the city, as well as extensive checking. Despite the fact that Section 144 has been imposed around the Golden Temple, prohibiting the carrying of any weapon, around a hundred men gathered outside following the morning prayer meeting.
