Shocking scenes from the temple revealed the bodies of devotees lying scattered across the premises. According to police and local reports, nine devotees were killed and several others were injured in the crush. 

Police rushed to the spot to take control of the situation and regulate the crowd. Additional police forces have been deployed in and around the temple to prevent further chaos.

What Caused the Venkateswara Swamy Temple Stampede? 

The incident occurred on Saturday as a large crowd gathered at the temple on the occasion of Ekadashi. The heavy rush of devotees led to overcrowding, resulting in a sudden stampede.

Kashibugga Venkateswara Swamy Temple: Total Capacity 3,000 People But 25,000 People Arrived

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Endowments, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, claimed that the Venkateswara Swamy Temple had a capacity of up to 2,000 to 3,000 people, but 25,000 devotees had arrived to offer prayers on Ekadashi. 

He wrote on X, “It is a private temple built by a man named Harimukund Panda with his own funds on 12 acres of his own land. The capacity of this temple is only 2,000 to 3,000 people. Today being Ekadashi, up to 25,000 people came at once. The person did not make appropriate arrangements or inform the government. This is the reason for the tragedy that occurred. “

Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu expressed his condolences over the loss of live in the Kashibugga Venkateswara Swamy Temple stampede in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakullam district. 

He took to X, saying, “The news that 9 people died in the stampede at the Venkateswara temple in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district, has caused deep sorrow. As soon as I came to know about the matter, I reached the scene and supervised the relief efforts. I pray that the souls of those who died in this tragic incident may rest in peace. Later, I visited the injured who are undergoing treatment at the Palasa Government Hospital and expressed my condolences.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the tragic Stampede at the Kashibugga Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam. He took to X to express his condolences, “Pained by the stampede in Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon.  An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”
