Texas Floods death toll reaches 80 | World news
At least 80 individuals, among whom 28 are children, have been killed in the catastrophic floods that have continued to wreak havoc on Texas, officials confimed on Sunday as per Reuters. Rescue efforts are ongoing now, with major urgency around efforts to locate a number of girls still missing from a summer camp. Governor Greg Abbott told that 41 individuals are still missing and cautioned against possible new flash floods that going to occur, leading to further evacuations throughout the state.
President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the victims of the flood and mentioned he is likely to visit the flood hit areas on Friday. In a statement in New Jersey, Trump referred to the tragedy as “absolutely horrible”. He confirmed that his government has been in touch with Governor Abbott. “God bless all of the people that have gone through so much, and God bless the state of Texas,” he further added.

During the 17th BRICS Summit that is happening in Rio de Janeiro, world leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned very strongly the terror strike in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir in April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people. The BRICS countries have made a joint statement condemning the attack as “criminal and unjustifiable,” and reiterating their collective resolve to fight terrorism in all its manifestations.

Prime Minister Modi, addressing a session on peace and security, stressed the imperative to have a collective and steadfast global response to terrorism. He said “the supporters and victims of terrorism can’t be put on the same scale” seemed to target countries like China, that has in the past obstructed attempts at the UN to black list Pakistan-based terrorists.
The BRICS meeting has also achieved broad agreement on other major issues, such as climate change. The BRICS countries received India’s offer to host the COP 33 UN climate summit in 2028 and extended strong support for the Paris Agreement objectives. Israel has carried out airstrikes against Houthi targets in 3 principal Yemeni ports-Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Saif, in a dramatic ratcheting up of regional tensions. The Israeli military issued evacuation alerts prior to the strikes, that targeted infrastructure such as a power station and a ship that was once hijacked by the Iran-backed group. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has confirmed the operation, entitled “Operation Black Flag,” threatening the Houthis would “continue to pay a heavy price.”
The attacks are in retaliation for persistent Houthi attacks on Israel and shipping in the Red Sea since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. Iran-aligned Houthis have shown support to Palestinians by launching missiles at Israel and targeting sea trade.
