Eknath Shinde, a rebel Shiv Sena MLA, and four other lawmakers paid a visit to the renowned Kamakhya temple in Guwahati today morning and offered prayers.
Shinde and other Shiv Sena dissident MLAs have been camped out in a hotel in this city for more than a week, which has caused a political crisis in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi administration. According to Shinde, who has the backing of over 50 MLAs, he will soon return to Mumbai and “carry Balasaheb Thackeray’s legacy forward.”
After visiting the temple, Shinde stated, “Tomorrow, I’ll be going back to Mumbai. At the temple, I prayed for the happiness of the Maharashtrians.”
The dissident leader also said that he will participate in the Maharashtra Assembly’s floor test.
In a letter to the chief minister of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari urged him to show his majority by calling a special session of the state legislature on June 30 at 11 a.m. The letter states that the floor test must be finished by 5 pm.
Devendra Fadnavis, the leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, sent a letter to the state’s governor on Tuesday, requesting an immediate floor test, along with 8 other independent MLAs.
