MHA clarifies not to give any direction to provide EWS flats to Rohingyas

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed on Wednesday that it has not issued any directives directing Bakkarwala in New Delhi to allocate EWS apartments to Rohingya illegal immigrants.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has not issued any directives to supply EWS flats to Rohingya illegal migrants in Bakkarwala in New Delhi, in response to news claims in some parts of the media regarding these individuals, the Office of the Home Minister tweeted.

In a series of tweet, HMO stated, “Delhi government offered to move the Rohingyas to a new site.”

HMO said that the MHA had instructed the GNCTD to make sure that the Rohingya illegal immigrants would remain in their current location because the MHA had previously raised the issue of their deportation with the relevant nation through MEA.

“Illegal aliens are to be detained in Detention Center till their expulsion as per law. The current location has not been designated as a detention centre by the Delhi government. They have been told to start doing similarly right away” it continued.

The explanation followed rumours that some 1,100 Rohingyas now living in tents would soon be relocated to flats furnished with the most basic conveniences and watched over around-the-clock.

The report came as a result of the choice made during a high-level conference over the housing of Rohingya in the national capital. Delhi Chief Secretary served as the meeting’s moderator.

After a fire broke out in the camp where they were residing, Rohingyas were relocated to tents in the Madanpur Khadar area, and it was made clear at the discussion that Delhi government was paying rent for those tents at a cost of about Rs 7 lakh per month.
