Moosewala murder case: SC refuses to entertain plea to transfer case to CBI

Justices Ajay Rastogi and Abhay S. Oka’s bench further stated that they disapprove of the practise of politicising such situations and that it should not be done. The Court did add, however, that the court must operate transparently for all parties. The hearing on another petition by accused Lawrence Bishnoi’s father contesting the transit remand to Punjab police was postponed to July 18 and the Punjab state was requested to provide a response to the petition.
Senior attorney AM Singhvi represented Punjab, while senior attorney Vikram Chaudhri represented the mobster Lawrence Bishnoi’s father.
On June 14, the Delhi Patiala House Court approved both the Punjab Police’s request for transit and the arrest of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. The court further ordered Punjab Police to make sure that Lawrence Bishnoi’s medical checkup followed all applicable laws and regulations before he left Delhi and before he appeared before the relevant CJM, Mansa, Punjab court.
In granting the Punjab Police’s requests, the Delhi court had previously stated that “the applicant Investigation Officer/SP Dharamveer Singh and the investigating agency were directed to take all the appropriate measures for safety and security of the accused Lawrence Bishnoi during transit until production of the accused Lawrence Bishnoi before the concerned Court at Mansa, Punjab.”
Lawrence Bishnoi is a crucial conspirator in the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case, the Punjab Police allege in a plea they have filed in the municipal court. According to the Punjab Police, the arrestees’ confession statements were recorded during the inquiry into the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala, and it was made abundantly evident that Lawrence Bishnoi had given the co-accused the order to carry out the “planned assassination of Sidhu Moose Wala.”
