VHP writes to Delhi Police Commissioner, demands cancellation of Munawar’s show

The licensing branch of the Delhi Police has denied permission a day after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora seeking the cancellation of a show by comedian Munawar Faruqui in the national capital scheduled for August 28. This follows a report from the central district police that “the show will affect communal harmony in the area,” according to sources.

VHP Delhi unit chief Surendra Kumar Gupta stated in the letter that Faruqui is slated to perform at the Kedarnath Stadium in Delhi’s Civic Centre on August 28.

“In his show, this individual mocks Hindu gods and goddesses. As a result of this, communal tensions were triggered in Bhagya Nagar. We urge you to cancel this show immediately, or else Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal activists will oppose it and hold protests,” the letter, written in Hindi, read.

Faruqui was scheduled to perform in Bengaluru on August 19, but the city police denied permission. However, he announced the day before the show that it had been cancelled due to health concerns.
