The chief pontiff of the Murugha Math, Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru was shifted to the district hospital for treatment on Friday after he complained of chest pain. Sri Shivamurthy was arrested in a POCSO case on Thursday. Police reports claim that the seer began feeling uneasy on Friday morning, and the prison staff brought him to the Chitradurga district hospital where a number of tests are being carried out as per the doctors’ instructions.
The police had taken him for a medical test immediately following his arrest on Thursday night late at night before presenting him before the judge, who ordered him in detention for 14 days.
Superintendent of Police K. Parashuram told media that they planned to move the court seeking police custody of the seer for questioning.
He stated clearly that there was no delay in the seer’s arrest, but that it did take some time since they had to gather evidence to support the arrest of the primary accused.
He claimed that the warden of the hostel run by the Mutt had already been arrested and taken to the “Santvana Kendra” for questioning.
In addition to the POCSO Act and the SC/ST Act, cases have been filed against the seer under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The group of advocates demanded in their letter that the high court intervene the continuing investigation into the issue in the interest of justice in order to guarantee impartial and unbiased investigations.
“The accused herein being an influential person not even being summoned by the investigating officer, let alone being arrested is utterly shocking,” advocates Siddharth Bhupathi, Shreeram T Nayak, Ganesh Prasad B S, Ganesh V and Ponnanna K A wrote in the letter.
