On Monday morning, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has been detained, was transported to the Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for a medical examination.
On May 20, he was sent to Patiala Central Jail after the Supreme Court sentenced him to one year of solitary confinement in the 1988 road rage case. Sidhu was cleared of the charges of culpable homicide but convicted of the crime of voluntarily causing harm.
Sidhu was fined Rs 1,000 by the court, and his companion, Rupinder Singh Sandhu, was acquitted in the case.
Due to a lack of evidence in the case and the benefit of the doubt, the Sessions Court Judge of Patiala discharged Sidhu and his associate on September 22, 1999.
The families of the victims took the case to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which found Sidhu guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison in 2006. Sidhu then appealed to the Supreme Court, appealing the order.
On December 27, 1988, Sidhu allegedly stomped on Gurnam Singh’s head, killing him.
