Agastya will play Archie Andrews, Suhana will play Veronica Lodge, while Khushi Kapoor will play Betty Cooper, according to reports. Mihir will play Jughead Jones in the film.

The Archies is director Zoya Akhtar’s (Indian) reimagining of the renowned American comic invention — the Riverdale group of Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Jughead Jones, Reggie Mantle, and Kevin Keller — and it’s the first look.

The first look, which has dominated a sector of social media exchanges in these parts, has sparked two types of debates: the old one about Bollywood nepotism, and the new one about whether there is anything remotely Indian about what is intended to be a musical series.

The outcry over nepotism has been building since it was announced that Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, late veteran actress Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor, and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan will be making their acting debuts in the series. The series also features Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Yuvraj Menda, and Vedang Raina, in addition to the three celebrity youngsters.

The series is helmed by Zoya Akhtar, who has established herself as a top director in Bollywood. However, the fact that she is the daughter of lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar and screenwriter Honey Irani cannot be denied. Shabana Azmi, her stepmother, is an actress, and Farhan Akhtar, her younger brother, is an actor and filmmaker.

Anyway, the star kids like Suhana, Khushi and Agastya have been trolled on social media platforms, and on Twitter there was a viral campaign with the hashtag: #BoycottBollywood.
