NIA conducts raids at multiple locations in J-K

According to authorities, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at numerous places in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday in connection with a terror attack investigation.

The searches were reportedly carried out primarily at suspicious areas in south Kashmir with the support of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men. According to sources, the raids were carried out in connection with a case involving an attack on security forces on March 11 this year in Darasgarh, Pulwama.

The NIA detectives are said to have selected a few individuals from their homes for interrogation in the investigation.
The news comes just days after the NIA raided four sites in the Union Territory, including three in Baramulla and one in Handwara district, in connection with a cross-LoC trade and terror funding case.

The case involves the development of additional profits through a cross-LoC trading system between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), with the cash earned being used to incite terrorist actions in Jammu and Kashmir.

The trading began in 2008 through two Trade Facilitation Centres (TFCs) located in Salamabad, Uri in the Baramulla District and Chakan-da-Bagh in the Poonch District.

On April 18, 2019, India halted cross-LoC commerce at two places along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir indefinitely, citing concerns that it was being “misused” by individuals from across the border to carry firearms, drugs, and counterfeit cash.

On December 16, 2016, the NIA registered the complaint on its own.

The LoC trade between Chakan-Da-Bagh in Jammu’s Poonch district and Salamabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was designed as a confidence-building measure (CBM) for the people living in Jammu and Kashmir and across the LoC in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok).
