The Nitish Kumar-led government will face a floor test to prove its majority in the Bihar Legislative Assembly on August 24.
Nitish Kumar was sworn in as chief minister for the eighth time on Wednesday. He left the BJP-led NDA.
RJD Leader Tejashwi Yadav took oath as Deputy Chief Minister.
The decision to hold a floor test and make suitable recommendations for convening the state assembly was taken at a cabinet meeting attended by Kumar and Yadav yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Grand Alliance filed a no-confidence motion against Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha, who belongs to BJP. On Wednesday, a notice signed by several Grand Alliance legislators was submitted to the Assembly Secretariat.
According to media reports, senior JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary “The motion against Sinha will be taken up by the House when it meets to enable Nitish Kumar to move a trust vote”.
He added, “As per rules, a Speaker can be removed from office by a resolution of the assembly passed by a majority”.
