The Special Investigation Team (SIT) expands its investigation into Ashok Kharat’s alleged criminal organization which he operates from his Nashik base as a self-proclaimed “godman” and numerologist.
Police took Kharat’s son Harshvardhan into custody at their Karmayogi Nagar home after multiple sexual exploitation and fraud claims emerged against him. Kharat’s wife Kalpana currently avoids police capture, which has led to a major development in the case.
The SIT investigation reveals multiple “mystical” scams and predatory activities, while police now investigate the family’s role in overseeing financial and administrative functions of their alleged “spiritual” business activities.
Kalpana Kharat: Fugitive Status and Legal Implications
The police have filed a new First Information Report (FIR) against Kalpana Kharat, who is the wife of the accused in a major land fraud investigation in Shirdi.
The investigators allege that she operated as a central member of a criminal organization that employed fake loan documents and unauthorized money lending to steal a property valued at about ₹10 crore.
Kalpana has gone into hiding to escape the Special Investigation Team’s search while Ashok Kharat remains in police custody facing charges filed through 11 First Information Reports, which include seven counts of rape and sexual exploitation. \
The authorities have launched a statewide manhunt for her because they consider her an important suspect who possesses information about the family’s hidden wealth and the operational aspects of their religious foundations.
Detention of Harshvardhan: Probing the Family Business
The Nashik Crime Branch conducted Harshvardhan’s arrest because they wanted to weaken the protective network that supported the “godman” he served.
The detectives are investigating whether Harshvardhan knew about the activities that took place in the dark room, which included drugging and filming female followers for blackmail purposes.
The SIT intends to use the son as part of their investigation because they need to compare the digital evidence with the 100 objectionable videos they discovered at the location. The authorities suspect that the family business operated as a criminal organization because they used fear and financial pressure to control others through their religious beliefs.
