Eknath Shinde was named as their leader in a letter addressed to the Governor and signed by 34 MLAs that was delivered late on Wednesday.

Sanjay Raut, the party’s leader, disputed Eknath Shinde’s allegation that 40 MLAs supported his rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray and indicated that at least half of them were “in touch” about returning.

Here are some major developments to the story:

  1. Eknath Shinde posted a scathing letter from a legislator accusing the Maharashtra Chief Minister of shutting his doors to them and keeping them waiting for hours while he and about 41 other MLAs camped in Guwahati. One of the MLAs in Guwahati who was with the rebels, Sanjay Shirsat, claimed, “We were denied admission to the Chief Minister’s house for 2.5 years.”
  1. The MLAs, however, do not want Uddhav Thackeray to step down from his position as Maharashtra’s chief minister. Deepak Kesakar, one of the three MLAs who joined the rebel camp this morning, stated, “Instead, we want him to get into an alliance with the BJP and create a new government with a natural ally.
  2. “Shinde had 37 Shiv Sena MLAs as of yesterday (Eknath). I arrived here today along with three other Shiv Sena members and one independent MLA. In the upcoming hours, two to three are anticipated to arrive “Kesakar revealed.
  3. In the party that his father, Bal Thackeray, established and steered for many years, Uddhav Thackeray is relegated to a minority chief. He summoned a meeting today, but only 13 MLAs showed up, sources informed. Sanjay Raut, the top spokesperson for the Shiv Sena, said: “When they (the MLAs) return to Mumbai, you will get to know, (it) will soon be exposed, in what circumstances, pressure these MLAs left us.
  4. As a way out of the massive political crisis that has overtaken the ruling coalition, the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP, Shiv Sena’s alliance partners in Maharashtra, have urged that rebel Eknath Shinde be chosen as Chief Minister, sources said.
  5. The leader of the Sena mutiny, Eknath Shinde, asserted that the ruling coalition mainly benefited its allies while regular Shiv Sainiks suffered the most during the government’s two-and-a-half years in power. Mr. Shinde, who is camped out in Guwahati with dissident Sena MLAs, tweeted on Wednesday, “It is imperative to take a decision in the interest of the state.”
  6. Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, called a party meeting today amidst political unrest inside the government coalition. Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister, Dilip Walse Patil, ministers Jayant Patil and Jitendra Awhad, and party leader Sunil Tatkare all attended the meeting.
  7. On Wednesday, Thackeray mentioned his father and party founder Balasaheb Thackeray in an emotional speech to rebels, with the last two and a half years of the coalition’s existence at stake. “He should approach me and inform me if my own people do not want me to be their Chief Minister. I’m prepared to step down. I am Balasaheb’s son, and I’m not looking for a job “In a Facebook post on Wednesday night, Uddhav Thackeray, who had tested positive for Covid, stated.
  8. The BJP claims that the Shiv Sena is responsible for the political crisis in Maharashtra and that it is not the party’s intention to stake a claim to power in the state. “Eknath Shinde and I are silent. This is an internal Shiv Sena issue. Nothing about this involves the BJP. We’re not claiming to be the government’s founders, “Party leader Devendra Fadnavis was greeted by Union Minister Raosaheb Patil Danve, who spoke to the media.
  9. Although Eknath Shinde’s uprising is the first under Uddhav Thackeray, the Shiv Sena has had uprisings by notable individuals four times in its 56-year history, with three of those uprisings occurring under the leadership of its iconic founder Bal Thackeray.
