Finance Minister Ishaq Dar ordered an investigation into the ‘illegal, unauthorised’ release of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s family tax data on Monday.
Dar stated that an urgent inquiry into the matter will be conducted and that a report will be provided within 24 hours. In a statement, Finance department stated that “This is definitely a breach of the law’s provision for total secrecy of tax information.”
According to the statement, an urgent inquiry into the infringement of tax law and breach of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) data will be conducted.
Dar has asked Tariq Mehmood Pasha, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue, to personally head the investigation, assign blame, and produce a report within 24 hours.
Notably, a damning investigation has revealed the substantial growth in wealth of close family members of the country’s most powerful person during a six-year period, barely than two weeks before Bajwa’s tenure is set to finish.
