The Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) seminar ‘Swavlamban’ will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday at 4:30 pm at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced today, underlining the specifics of the occasion, that achieving self-reliance in the defence sector is a crucial component of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. In order to further this goal, the Prime Minister will introduce “SPRINT Challenges” during the programme, which are designed to encourage the Indian Navy to use more homegrown technology.

NIIO and the Defense Innovation Organisation (DIO) are working together to introduce at least 75 new indigenous technology and products into the Indian Navy as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.” The name of this joint endeavour is SPRINT (Supporting Pole-Vaulting in R&D through iDEX, NIIO and TDAC).

In order to achieve self-reliance in the defence industry, the seminar intends to include Indian academia and industry. The two-day Seminar (18-19 July) will give leaders from business, academia, services, and government a forum to collaborate on ideas and formulate suggestions for the defence sector. There will be sessions on innovation, indigenization, armament, and aviation.

According to the government’s SAGAR vision, outreach to the Indian Ocean Region will take place on the Seminar’s second day (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
