In the Rajasthani area of Sri Ganga Nagar, a Pakistani national who reportedly crossed the international border into India with the intent to assassinate suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma is being detained.
The detained Pakistani national is being questioned by a team from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and other intelligence organisations. The individual was taken on July 16 at approximately 11 p.m. from close to the Hindumalkot border station, according to a senior Border Security Force (BSF) official. He was discovered by a patrolling crew in a questionable state. He was detained and frisked right away.
“We have found an 11-inch long knife, religious books, clothes, food and sand in the bag from his possession. He identified himself as Rizwan Ashraf, a native of Mandi Bahauddin city located in Northern Punjab of Pakistan,” he said.
He added that during the preliminary investigation, the suspect informed that he has crossed the border to kill Nupur Sharma over her controversial remarks on Prophet. He had planned to visit Ajmer Dargah first before executing his plan.
“We have handed him over to local police for further investigation. He was produced before a magistrate from where he was sent to eight days of police custody. We have informed the concerned intelligence agencies about him,” he added.
He is being questioned by an IB, RAW, and military intelligence team.
The action was taken in response to statements made by now-suspended BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma against the Prophet Mohammad, which sparked violent riots across the nation and attracted criticism from various Gulf nations.
