Mr. Chowdhury, Congress leader, had used the “Rashtrapatni” remark while addressing reporters during his party’s protests.
“It was not a slip of the tongue. If you watch the clip, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury clearly (referred to President Murmu as) Rashtrapati twice, then he called her Rashtrapatni,” Law Minister Kiren Rijiju told media.
The BJP, led by Ministers Smriti Irani in the Lok Sabha and Nirmala Sitharaman in the Rajya Sabha, demanded an apology from Chowdhury and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday after Chowdhury was heard calling the President “Rashtrapatni” ass “Rasthrapati is a gender-neutral word,” Sitharaman claimed in the Rajya Sabha that calling the President “Rashtrapatni” was a “sexist insult.”
