Jaishankar met Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde today to discuss bilateral cooperation
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde on Wednesday and discussed bilateral cooperation in education, health, investment, and other areas.
EAM stated on Twitter that he and Ethiopia’s President discussed the regional and international circumstances.
“I am grateful to Ethiopian President @SahleWorkZewde for hosting me. A good conversation about our bilateral collaboration in education, health, investment, and development. We also discussed the regional and international circumstances,” EAM tweeted.
Following his meeting with Ethiopia’s President, Jaishankar spoke to the Indian community in Addis Abeba.
S Jaishankar said on Twitter, “Addressed the Indian community in Addis Abeba this morning.” Their contribution to education and job creation has been excellent. Their impact on Ethiopian society is well acknowledged. Thank them for keeping India’s flag flying high.”
Earlier, in Addis Ababa, S Jaishankar dedicated the new Indian Embassy Chancery building in the presence of Ethiopian Women and Social Affairs Minister Ergogie Tesfaye.
Meanwhile, S Jaishankar will attend the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali on June 22-25.
EAM is also expected to head the Indian delegation to the CHOGM, which has been postponed owing to the Covid-19 epidemic.
Jaishankar will represent Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Commonwealth Summit on June 24-25, as well as the pre-CHOGM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kigali on June 23.
The next Chair of the Commonwealth, the Government of the Republic of Rwanda, has also organised a number of Forums on the sidelines of CHOGM, including the Commonwealth Youth Forum, Commonwealth Women Forum, Commonwealth Business Forum, Commonwealth People’s Forum, and other side events.
“Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming” is the topic of the 26th CHOGM Summit.
The Commonwealth Leaders are slated to have talks on themes of current relevance, such as climate change, food security, and health concerns, and are expected to approve the following four- Outcome Documents: CHOGM Communique; Kigali Declaration on Child Care and Protection Reform; Sustainable Urbanization Declaration; and Commonwealth Living Lands Charter: A Commonwealth Call to Action on Living Lands.
