The Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed a petition filed by Lawrence Bishnoi for not handing over his custody to Punjab police in the murder case of musician Sidhu Moosewala
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed a petition filed by Lawrence Bishnoi, a convicted criminal who was seeking suitable directives for not handing over his custody to Punjab police in the murder case of musician Sidhu Moosewala.
Bishnoi, who is accused of being involved in Moosewala’s murder, moved to the high court on Wednesday after withdrawing a plea from the Delhi High Court in which he said he was afraid of being killed in a “false encounter” by Punjab police and demanded required safeguards.
Punjab Advocate General Anmol Rattan Sidhu argued that Bishnoi’s appeal should be dismissed as premature when it was heard in the court of Justice Sureshwar Thakur on Thursday.
He noted that the plea was dismissed as premature and unmaintainable.
Bishnoi had requested that the court magistrate in Mansa, Punjab, be barred from handing over his custody to the Punjab investigating agency in his appeal, which he had filed through lawyers Sangram Saraon and Shubpreet Kaur.
The petitioner requested that appropriate directives be issued for questioning him through online/video conference or within the confines of Tihar Jail in New Delhi.
The petitioner also claimed that he faced a substantial threat to his life and that he could be “put to hurt or liquidated by using extrajudicial means” if he was produced or released from detention in connection with the FIR filed by the Mansa police.
Bishnoi, 35, alleged in his appeal that he was wrongfully accused of murdering singer Sidhu Moosewala.
