According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), a 40-year-old Sikh lady died in Canada after being stabbed numerous times at her home in Surrey, British Columbia.

Local media reported that the police discovered Harpreet Kaur suffering from several and life-threatening stab wounds at a residence in the 12700 block of 66 Avenue just before 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Kaur’s husband was detained as a suspect but was later freed. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.

According to Sgt Timothy Pierotti of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, investigators are working around the clock to solve the case.

“These occurrences have a major impact, not just on the victim’s family and friends, but on the entire community,” stated Pierotti.

Pierotti suggested that it may be a case of domestic violence, saying, “anytime there’s an accusation of domestic violence, police take it extremely seriously.”

Police stated that they are disclosing Kaur’s identify to aid in their investigation.

The tragedy came only days after another Canadian-Sikh lady, Pawanpreet Kaur, 21, was shot dead at a petrol station in Mississauga on December 3.

In another similar instance last month, an 18-year-old Sikh boy Mehakpreet Sethi was stabbed to death in the parking lot of a high school in Surrey.
