Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 AM today in Mumbai.
Pamela Chopra, the wife of renowned filmmaker Yash Chopra, died on Thursday in Mumbai. She was 74 years old at the time. The news of her death was announced on the official social media account of Yash Raj Films.
The post read, “With heavy hearts, the Chopra family would like to inform you that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 AM today in Mumbai. We are grateful for your prayers and the family would like to request privacy in this moment of deep sadness and reflection.”
As per reports, she has been receiving treatment for Pneumonia at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai for the past few days.
Insiders in the industry refer to her as Yash Chopra’s “muse.” She was an active participant in her husband’s creative endeavors. She was recently seen in the Netflix documentary ‘The Romantics,’ in which she discussed her husband’s filmmaking style and how the Yash Raj studio evolved over time.
Yash and Pamela married in 1970, and they had two sons, Aditya and Uday. Pamela was Rani Mukerji’s mother-in-law because she was Aditya’s mother. Pamela used to sing well and appeared in many of Yash Chopra’s films. ‘Main Sasural Nahi Jaungi’ (Chandni) and ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi’ (Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge) were two of her most famous songs.
Pamela also wrote the story for the film ‘Kabhi Kabhi,’ starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rakhee, and she was the designer for the film ‘Silsila.’
In many of his interviews, the late filmmaker mentioned her wife’s creative contributions to his films. The couple appeared in the song ‘Ek Duje Ke Vaaste’ from the film ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’. She even produced films on her own. Pamela Chopra’s death left a void in the Hindi film industry.
