FM Sitharaman Chairs 48th GST Council Meeting; No Tax Increase on Any Item

The 48th meeting of the GST Council was presided over on Saturday by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presided over the GST Council’s 48th meeting on Saturday.
“Today in New Delhi, the 48th virtual meeting of the GST Council is being presided over by Union Finance Minister Smt. @nsitharaman. Senior officers from the Union Government and States are also there, in addition to the FM and Union Minister of State for Finance Shri @mppchaudhary, who is also present at the meeting “Finance Ministry tweeted.
Eight of the 48th GST Council meeting’s agenda items were addressed during the meeting, according to Sitharman, and the other four will be continued to the following one. The finance minister said that seven agenda items were addressed in order, along with another one pertaining to data exchange.
“Nothing has seen a tax rise during this 48th GST Council Meeting. No new taxes have been implemented. Everything that has been done has been to provide clarifications where there was a conflict of interpretation, “At the conclusion of the discussion, Sitharaman remarked.
Late in June 2022, in Chandigarh, the GST Council convened its 47th meeting.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was rationalised for several commodities like LED lights and solar water heaters among others as a result of the proposals that were discussed during the two-day 47th GST Council meeting in Chandigarh in June.
On July 18 of this year, the GST Council’s suggested rate increases went into effect.
