Special PMLA court sent Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut to Enforcement Directorate’s custody till August 4 in connection with the money laundering case.
Raut was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the land scam case. ED seized Rs 11.5 lakhs unaccounted for cash from his residence. Raut has been accused of money laundering while the Patra Chawl was under redevelopment, beginning in 2008.
Patra Chawl is located in the suburbs of Mumbai at Goregaon East. Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) decided to redevelop the area in 2008. A contract was given to Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited (GACPL) company to redevelop Patra Chawl and rehabilitate the 672 families.
A deal was signed by Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited and MHADA, the local tenants’ society. According to the agreement, each family would receive a flat and that private developers would develop the remaining space. However, the 672 families and others are still unable to accomplish their dream of a new home 14 years later.
According to the Enforcement Directorate, several directors of GACPL are close to Sanjay Raut.
GACPL constructed MEADOWS and took Rs 138 crore as booking amount, from flat buyers.
As per sources, Rs 83 lakh was given to the wife of Sanjay Raut, who bought a flat in Dadar, Mumbai, which has now been seized by the agency.
Later, in 2018, MHADA gave the developers a termination notice as a result of nonpayment of rent and other violations. When the nine developers relocated the Bombay HC, the entire project was stalled.
