The Chennai Super Kings are all set to host Punjab Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai today (April 3). While Punjab Kings are coming into this game on the back of a win in their previous encounter against Gujarat Titans at home, Chennai Super Kings lost their first match of the season against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
While the Shreyas Iyer-led side will look to continue momentum, the Super Kings would look to get off the mark in IPL 2026 in front of the home crowd.

MS Dhoni will be missing some of the matches in the initial phase, the franchise confirmed on Saturday. According to the official statement, the former India and CSK captain is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. “Official Statement. MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. As a result, he is likely to miss the first two weeks of the TATA IPL 2026. Get well soon, Thala,” CSK wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Sunil Gavaskar believes the answer may finally begin to take shape. “At some stage, they have to figure out their XI without him,” he said on JioStar’s pre-match show, days before CSK’s IPL 2026 opener against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on Monday, March 30.
“Clearly, this could be that opportunity over the next two weeks. If he’s not there, that means three or maybe four matches that he’ll miss, giving them a chance to see what kind of XI they need to win games.”
Former South African pacer Dale Steyn also described the situation as a blessing in disguise. “It allows them to look at what the future of Chennai Super Kings will look like”.
While he is set to miss few matches, MS Dhoni was spotted sweating it out in the nets ahead of the Punjab Kings clash. Watching him bat, the Khan brothers– Musheer and Sarfaraz were left in awe. While Sarfaraz is a part of the CSK dressing room, his brother Musheer is in the Punjab Kings squad.
The two brothers will be up against each other if they are included in the Playing XIs of their respective teams.
