Sachin Tendulkar Checks On Ailing Vinod Kambli, Brother Praises Enduring Friendship

The names of Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli go hand in hand as far as fans of Indian cricket are concerned. The two youngsters were inseparable since their early days on the maidaans of Mumbai to making a mark in the domestic cricket. Their friendship became a legend on and off the field and it continues to date even when Kambli is facing health issues.

Childhood Bond and Record-Breaking Partnership

Kambli was younger brother of Virendra who reminisced about the friendship that started at school. The pair are also remembered in school cricket when they partnered in a record 664 runs. “Sachin dada has always supported Vinod. Their friendship is still very strong. Sachin calls and checks on him with Andrea (Hewitt, Vinod’s wife),” Virendra said.

The bond did not weaken even when they grew older and started to pursue different careers. Tendulkar was always present and Kambli was so close to him in the Mumbai cricket circuit. They were not only professional but also very personal in their relationship having shared several years of dreams and exploits on the field.

Tendulkar’s Constant Support During Illness

Virendra talked of how Tendulkar was in constant touch with Kambli when he was battling ill health. “He is at home right now. He is getting stable, but his treatment is on. He is having difficulty speaking. It will take him time to recover. But he is a champion, and he will come back,” he revealed.

The cricketing legend has been in regular touch and calls Kambli regularly to enquire about his wellbeing. Such deeds identify a unique friendship that has survived the test of time and performance and failure in sports. The support of Tendulkar reminds of the strong ties that are established in the maidaans of Mumbai.

Memories from the Ranji Trophy Days

Virendra also gave his own anecdotes about Ranji trophy matches they used to watch together. “I would go to the dressing room to eat, and Sachin dada, Vinod, and I would sit together and have fun. We would joke around and have a good time,” he said.  These scenes depict the affection and intimacy that was more than just cricket, and that shows the nature of their friendship.

Their professional lives had gone in different directions, but the respect and the care between them is still there. Their friendship story is now inspirational as Kambli picks up recovery, as friendship can outlast fame and success.

Virendra had high hopes of Kambli recovering and emphasised on the belief in his powers. “He will start walking and running, hopefully. I have a lot of faith in him. I hope you can see him back on the ground,” he said.  Tendulkar and the love of his life help him to go through all the difficulties and move towards becoming strong again.
