WWE must decide whether to defend TNA as an ally or lessen its influence against AEW by employing TNA.
A recently revealed business deal provision in WWE with TNA might have conspicuous effects later on the pro wrestling world. According to reports, WWE enjoys a right of first refusal in its deal with TNA which in essence gives it the right to match any offer to buy the promotion and effectively be in control of its fate.
This high stakes provision reflects the terms WWE has in place with the other European independent promoters, the idea being to make sure that should TNA ever be offered on the market, then WWE can have the ability to keep it either in its backyard, or at least within its construct. Some of the analysts speculate that the motive is not a direct near future buy out but more a precautionary policy on the side of second biggest organization in the wrestling business.
To further add credence to that theory, WWE recently opted out of its normal clause of arena exclusivity, which is usually deployed to seal off its competitors, on one of its venues during the TNA events: Bound for Glory. This action highlights an even more significant collaboration in the workforce that goes well beyond plotwork collaboration.
Meanwhile, there have been speculations that ex UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta may come forth as a possible buyer to TNA. Nevertheless, since WWE has the right of match to any offer, any takeover would require the company to clear the acquisition- otherwise it would just face a dead end.
This provision allows WWE to have greater control over the future of the wrestling market and even build TNA to a stable and cordial rivalry to that of AEW. This would enable TNA to improve its overall competition, value addition in TV partnership negotiations and give the company a new dimension as a viable No. 2 promotion. About both price and time, the mystery is over, and the surprising scale of the available option, to both purchase and/or to veto TNA, is now made abundantly obvious. Such a tactical step helps to keep the wrestling world on edge, will WWE eventually dominate its nearest competitor or employ the help of TNA to diminish the position of AEW?
