A Hindu organisation in Washington has denounced the USCIRF report on religious freedom as the result of “Hinduphobic” commission members, while Muslim and Christian organisations have praised the findings and demanded that the US label India a “country of particular concern.”

In the context of religious freedom, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) study suggested that India, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and 11 other countries be designated as “countries of particular concern” by the Biden Administration.

The US government is not bound by the recommendations.

The USCIRF has been taken over by “Indophobic and Hinduphobic individuals,” according to HinduPACT, an initiative of the World Hindu Council of America.

Religious freedom conditions in India “seriously worsened” in 2021, according to the American Muslim Institution (AMI) and its affiliate organisations, which applaud the USCIRF recommendation.

In separate releases, the Federation of Indian-American Christian Organizations and the Indian-American Muslim Council reportedly praised the USCIRF suggestion.

USCIRF Commissioner Anurima Bhargava claimed that Indian government officials were tolerating and engaged in religious persecution of Muslims and Christians with widespread mob violence during a special virtual congressional briefing a day after the report’s release.
