Indian Govt. Lays Out ₹10,372 Crore for IndiaAImission : Know The 7 Goals of The Mission

On Thursday, the Cabinet sanctioned the national IndiaAI mission, allocating a budget of ₹10,371.92 crore. This significant initiative aims to propel India towards becoming a leading hub for artificial intelligence by focusing on the development of expansive language models, establishing AI infrastructure, and enhancing the skills of its workforce.

The goal of the IndiaAI Mission is to position the nation as a frontrunner in artificial intelligence. This objective involves various strategies such as collaborating with the private sector to create computing infrastructure, which will incorporate more than 10,000 GPUs (graphics processing units). Additionally, the mission aims to establish an AI datasets platform, enabling startups and researchers to utilize non-personal data, along with implementing other measures to stimulate innovation.

So, what are the goals of IndiaAImission?

  1. IndiaAI Compute Capacity: The IndiaAI plan to create a really powerful AI computing system to help the growing number of AI startups and researchers in India. This system will have over 10,000 special computers called Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), and it’ll be made with the help of both the government and private companies. They’ll also make an AI marketplace where people can get AI tools and pre-trained models easily. This marketplace will be like a one-stop shop for everything needed for AI innovation.
  2.  IndiaAI Innovation Centre: The IndiaAI Innovation Centre will work on making and using big, smart models that can understand lots of different things at once. They’ll focus on important areas like healthcare, agriculture, and more.

IndiaAI Datasets Platform: The IndiaAI Datasets Platform will make it easier for startups and researchers to get good data for their AI projects. They’ll create a single place where people can find all the data they need, making it simple for Indian startups and researchers to do their work.

  1. IndiaAI Application Development Initiative: The IndiaAI Application Development Initiative aims to encourage the use of AI in important sectors by addressing challenges identified by Central Ministries, State Departments, and other organizations. This effort will concentrate on creating, expanding, and promoting AI solutions that can bring about significant socio-economic changes on a large scale.
  2. IndiaAI FutureSkills: IndiaAI FutureSkills aims to make it easier for people to join AI programs by offering more AI courses at the undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. levels. Additionally, Data and AI Labs will be established in smaller cities across India to provide basic-level courses.
  3. IndiaAI Startup Financing: The IndiaAI Startup Financing initiative aims to support and speed up the growth of advanced technology AI startups by providing them with easier access to funding for innovative AI projects.
  4. Safe & Trusted AI: Acknowledging the importance of setting up proper guidelines for the ethical progression, use, and acceptance of AI, the Safe & Trusted AI aspect will facilitate the execution of responsible AI endeavors. This involves creating local tools and structures, providing self-assessment tools for innovators, and establishing other guidelines and regulatory frameworks.

In a statement released following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was stated by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) that action will be taken on a one-stop solution for resources critical for AI innovation.

also, “It has been stated by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for IT, that technology has been democratized by the Prime Minister. With the AI mission, computer power will now be made available to innovators, start-ups, students, and educational institutions.”
