TRS denies to join opposition meet today: Dissent over Congress being invited

TRS voiced out their strong opposition to the Congress being invited says it 'doesn't want to share dais with Congress'

K Chandrashekhar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), who had forged an alliance with Mamata Banerjee over their shared goal of defeating the BJP, opted out of the Opposition meeting this morning. TRS voiced out their strong opposition to the Congress being invited.

“The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will not be attending Mamata Banerjee’s call for an Opposition party leaders’ meeting in New Delhi to formulate a joint strategy for the Presidential elections,” said Krishank, TRS leader and Chairman of the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC).

As per CMO sources, “It is quite possible that Chief Minister KCR has decided not to send his representative to today’s opposition meet organized by Mamata Banerjee in Delhi.”

Banerjee met with Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), at his Mumbai home on Tuesday to try to persuade him to run for the top constitutional seat as the common opposition candidate. Pawar, on the other hand, has declined the offer, according to sources in the Opposition camp.

West Bengal CM is in Delhi for a conference to discuss the potential of forming a joint strategy with other opposition parties in the run-up to the presidential election.

Several opposition leaders will attend a conference held by the Trinamool Congress supremo on Wednesday to discuss Presidential elections and how to defeat the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance as a united front.

Presidential elections will be held on July 18, however, the results will be announced on July 21.
