Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Pakistani government reached an agreement two days ago in Kabul, according to a senior Taliban spokesperson.
Following the failure of the previous round of peace talks between the two parties, Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid stated on Saturday that he hopes the conversations this time would bear fruit. According to a media report, an Afghan Taliban official stated that his group served as a mediator.
If the discussions fail, Mujahid warned the Islamic group will not allow Afghan land to be used for strikes against Pakistan.
Most insurgent assaults in Afghanistan are carried out by the Afghan Taliban, who follow a well-established pattern of low-level ambush and hit-and-run operations interspersed with high-profile strikes.

A group of famous elders has visited Kabul on many occasions in an attempt to encourage the group to refrain from violence. Meanwhile, the Afghan Taliban have put their support behind continuing talks to keep the peace process on track.
TTP and the Pakistani government have agreed to an indefinite truce. For the first time this month, the Pakistani government announced that it was in talks with the TTP.
Despite the fact that both parties are in negotiations, it remains to be seen if the peace talks will result in long-term peace.
