Two cases of norovirus contamination have been confirmed by the Kerala government in two elementary school students. According to the state’s Health Ministry, the infection, which is similar to the diarrhoea-causing rotavirus, spreads through contaminated water and food.
According to service authorities, understudies are susceptible to food contamination after eating the late morning dinners supplied at school.
Norovirus is a “exceptionally infectious” infection that produces gastroenteritis – queasiness, heaving, and loose bowels, according to Dr. Manoj Sharma, senior specialist, Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj.
Dr Sharma explained, “The route of transmission is through the waste mouth channel which means that anyone can be tainted if they come into contact with contaminated food, water, or even waste”.
After being exposed to Norovirus, an individual usually develops side symptoms 12 to 48 hours later. It can also spread without even a hint of good hand hygiene, according to experts.
The treatment for viral gastroenteritis is primarily suggestive and powerful.
“Anti-toxins aren’t involved in this process. Having ORS is primarily about keeping up with water. In most cases, viral gastroenteritis lasts five to six days, if not more. The trick is to avoid dehydration in the first place “Dr. Sharma stated.
