Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo met with government officials in New Delhi, India, on August 26, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary PK Mishra, Ministry of Finance Secretary Ajay Seth, Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Vijay Kwatra, and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary Pankaj Jain.

During the Deputy Secretary’s meetings in New Delhi, he emphasised the importance of deepening the US-India relationship, including through platforms such as the Quad and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.

Deputy Secretary Adeyemo emphasised that through these efforts, including steps to strengthen supply chain resiliency between trusted partners like the United States and India, we can maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific that brings greater prosperity to our citizens.

The Deputy Secretary also discussed how the US and India could collaborate to address shared global challenges such as food insecurity and high energy prices.

The Deputy Secretary stressed the importance of ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in addressing these issues. The Deputy Secretary also discussed with counterparts the United States’ views on how to reduce energy prices for consumers and businesses in India, the United States, and around the world.

Deputy Secretary Adeyemo emphasised the importance of well-supplied global energy markets, even as we collaborate with partners like India to increase access to renewable energy sources, which will reduce our reliance on fossil fuels over time.

Following his meetings in New Delhi, Deputy Secretary Adeyemo will return to the United States.
