In relation to School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam, a Special Court in Kolkata on Wednesday extended Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody of former West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide, Arpita Mukherjee, by two days to August 5.
As their 10-day ED detention period was drawing to an end, the pair was brought before the court. Since his detention, ED has discovered various disproportionate assets belonging to Partha Chatterjee, including three apartments in Diamond City, West Bengal.
Approximately Rs 50 crore in cash and jewellery have been found in Mukherjee’s two apartments in Belghoria and southwest Kolkata by ED investigators.
Following the recovery of Rs 21 crore in cash and jewellery valued at over Rs 1 crore from the Kolkata home of Arpita Mukherjee, a close assistant of the previous education minister, Partha Chatterjee was detained.
Earlier on July 23, Enforcement Directorate discovered more than Rs 21 crore in cash at the home of a Partha Chatterjee of West Bengal acquaintance.
In relation to an allegedly fraudulent teacher recruiting scheme, ED searched Arpita Mukerjee’s home. However, 20 crore rupees had already been taken from her South Kolkata home.
