The audio communications function on WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging platform, is getting a huge upgrade.
According to GSM Arena, 7 billion voice conversations are exchanged between WhatsApp users every day. As a result, users will be able to pause a voice message recording and resume it when they are ready, as well as use a draught preview tool to listen to a message before sending it.

Out of chat playback is a new feature that allows users to do exactly what it says on the tin: listen to a voice message outside of the chat it’s part of, allowing them to multitask or read and respond to other messages.

According to GSM Arena, this is by far the most requested voice messaging feature, and WhatsApp is finally providing it.

There will also be a feature called ‘remember playback,’ which appears to be really useful: it simply allows users to resume where they left off when they return to the conversation after pausing a voice message they were listening to.
Fast playback for forwarded messages has also been enhanced, a self-explanatory function that has been long overdue (because users could already play at 1.5x or 2x on ‘regular’ messages but not forwarded ones).

According to GSM Arena, WhatsApp also debuted a waveform visualisation tool, which has been available in its Android app for a few weeks and gives a visual depiction of the sound on the voice message “to assist follow the recording.”

According to GSM Arena, all of the additional features described above will be available “in the following weeks.”
