FBI Director Kash Patel took to his X handle, confirming that Cindy Rodriguez Singh, a Texas woman wanted on state charges for allegedly killing her six-year-old son, has been arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Singh was last seen in March 2023, boarding a flight to India with her husband and six children, shortly after authorities began searching for her son. She is accused of misleading officials about her child’s whereabouts.
Patel shared details of the arrest, noting that Singh will face charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and capital murder of a person under 10 years of age. He wrote, “Singh allegedly lied to authorities about his whereabouts, and then two days later, boarded a flight to India – and we believe has not been back to the United States since.”
Patel said that Singh’s arrest marks the fourth capture of a 10 Most Wanted fugitive in the last seven months. He acknowledged the efforts of multiple agencies, stating, “thanks to our local partners in Texas, where this case originated, @TheJusticeDept, as well as partners in India for the coordinating. @FBIDallas and @NewYorkFBI did tremendous work.”
It remains unclear whether Singh was formally arrested in India.
Singh had been listed on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitive list, with a previously announced $250,000 reward for information leading to her capture.
She is accused of killing her son, Noel Alvarez, in March 2023. The child was last seen in October 2022, but his disappearance was not reported until March of the following year.
Following the missing report, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services directed the Everman Police Department to conduct a welfare check on Noel. During the check, the FBI said, “Rodriguez Singh lied to investigators and indicated that the child was in Mexico with his biological father and had been there since November 2022.”
Two days after allegedly misleading authorities, Cindy reportedly boarded a flight to India with her husband Arshdeep Singh and six children – Noel was not among them.
Months after fleeing, Singh was formally charged with capital murder in a Texas district court. An arrest warrant was issued in November 2023.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz reacted on X, saying, “…glad to see Rodriguez Singh being brought back to Texas from India, where she will finally face justice for the alleged heinous crime of murdering her child.”
