Vice President JD Vance has warned Elon Musk that forming a third political party may limit his influence, suggesting the billionaire could have a greater impact by remaining aligned with the Republican Party and President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement.

“My advice to Elon would be to try to fix the Republican Party. Try to push it in your own way. Disagree with me all you want, disagree with the president of the United States, but don’t pretend that you can make a big difference with a third party,” Vance said Wednesday during an interview with Fox.

He added, “I think Elon would make a much bigger difference if he stayed loyal to President Trump’s Republican Party, and if he had disagreements, express those disagreements from the inside as opposed from the outside.”

Elon Musk Pauses Plans for ‘America Party’

Vance’s comments come after The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk is pausing plans to launch the America Party, choosing instead to focus on his business ventures.

In July, Musk had announced on his social media platform X that the America Party would be created to restore people’s “freedom” amid criticism of the U.S. two-party system.

He wrote at the time, “when it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

Elon Musk’s Fight With Donald Trump, DOGE Exit

Earlier in 2025, Musk publicly diverged from Trump over the so-called “big, beautiful bill,” arguing that it would add trillions to the already growing US national debt and could undermine the efforts of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where Musk served as a special government adviser.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk’s allies emphasized that he has not officially ruled out creating the new party and could revisit the idea in the future.

“I do think that it would be a huge mistake for Elon to go forward with a third party, and my argument to him is whether you like it or not, you are now perceived by the far left as on the side of the American right,” Vance told Laura Ingraham.

He continued, “you believe in law and order, you believe in closed borders, you believe in economic growth and prosperity, you believe in making things in the United States of America. The idea that Elon is ever going to go back to being sort of in the middle, where Democrats and Republicans both like him, that’s just not going to happen. He is perceived as being on the American right.”

JD Vance About 2028 Presidential Run

The vice president also denied having discussions with Musk or other donors regarding a potential 2028 presidential run, despite speculation that Musk could financially support his campaign.

Reuters previously reported that Musk’s America PAC spent nearly $300 million during the 2024 election in support of Trump and other Republican candidates.
