In a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the margins of a conference in Uzbekistan on Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping promised that China and Russia will collaborate to “instil stability and constructive energy in a turbulent world.”

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, the global leaders have not met in person until now.

“Recently, we have been battling the Covid-19 pandemic’s effects, spoken on the phone several times, and maintained excellent strategic communications,” Xi said to Putin.

He further said, “We are very eager to use this Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit to exchange ideas with you on global and regional matters of shared interest.”

Vladimir Putin commended China for taking a “balanced” stance toward Ukraine. Putin said, “We understand your worries,” over Ukraine, without mentioning any specific points China could have brought up.

“Attempts to build a unipolar world have recently assumed an extremely hideous form and are entirely unacceptable,” the Russian President jabbed at the United States.

Putin said that when it comes to the Taiwan dispute, Russia upholds the idea of a single China. Putin stated, “We condemn the US and their satellites’ provocations in the Taiwan Strait.

The countries of China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan make up the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a regional security organisation.
