• Amavasya Tithi Ends: 11:36 AM, 23 August 2025
Polala Amavasya, also called Poleramma Vrantham, is dedicated to Goddess Poleramma, a fierce yet benevolent effect from a Shakti. She is worshipped as the guardian of children, believed to protect them from diseases and grant long life, strength, and prosperity.
The Vratam is particularly observed by mothers who seek the divine blessings of the goddess for their children’s good health, immunity from seasonal ailments, and overall well being. As the festival coincides with the monsoon, it is seen as a spiritual shield against epidemics that usually affect children during this time.
1. FASTING- Married women observe Vratam, often without food and water, as a mark of devotion.
2. Shodashopachara- The worship is performed with sixteen steps, beginning with invoking the goddess through drawings or images of Poleramma.
3. Raksha Daaram- A sacred thread is worshipped and tied to the wrist or neck of children, symbolizing divine protection.
4. Special Offerings: For sone, sweet balls made of jaggery and chana dal are prepared. For daughters, urad dal vadas are offered.
5. Recitation of Hymns- Devotees chant Durga Stuti, Gauri Ashtottharam, Bhavani Ashtakam, and other Shakti mantras throughout the day.
6. Vratha Katha- The traditional Polala Amavasya story is ready, emphasizing a mother’s devotion that restored her children’s lives with the blessings of the goddess.
Polala Amavasya 2025 is not a religious observance but also a heartfelt express of maternal devotion and protection. By fasting, performing puja, tying the raksha thread, and offering food to the goddess, devotees strengthen the spiritual bond between mother, child, and divine energy. This day reaffirms faith in the protective grace of Goddess Poleramma, ensuring children’s health, safety, and prosperity.
