
Vijaypat Singhania
Indian businessman, Padma Bhushan awardee and former chairman of the Raymond Group Vijaypat Singhania passed away in Mumbai on Saturday evening at age of 87. His last rites will take place on 29th March 2026 at Chandanwali crematorium. Singhania established himself as a business tycoon who developed a textile empire. He lived a bold and daring life. From creating wealth to giving away control, his journey carried both highs and deeply personal struggles.
During his peak, Vijaypat Singhania was among India’s richest businessman. Around 2012 his net worth was around $1.4 billion. His wealth comes mainly from his stronghold in Raymod, along with real estate and other investments. Things started changing in 2015 for Singhania and 2015 changed his life. First came his divorce from his wife Madhuri which led to a settlement of around $400 million. Soon after he transferred 37 per cent of his company share which was worth around Rs 1,000 crore to his son, Gautam. Initially it looked like a smooth family transition, but it turned out to be a disaster.
Later, Vijaypat Singhania’s lifestyle saw a major change as reports suggest that while he still had assets worth around Rs 12,000 crore but he was no longer living in the family-owned luxury residence instead of that he spent his last years in a rented home which drew everyone’s attention.
The relationship between Vijaypat Singhania and Gautam Singhania did not stay steady after the 2015 share transfer. Vijaypat later told media that the transfer of shared was not entirely voluntary. He said that it happened under emotional pressure. The situation became more serious when he raised concern regarding a promised duplex apartment in JK house, which was his well-known family house.
Vijaypat was born on 4th October 1938 in Kanpur. He belongs to the JK Group family. He started his career at an early age as his family background helped him with access to business operations. He studies at Sydenham Collage in Mumbai. He joined his family business after completing his studies.
When he took charge of Raymond, the company was already established, but he pushed it to a much higher level. He expanded the reach of the brand within India and abroad
