To prevent decay before it starts, it’s all about good habits, and we’ve got 7 dentist-approved habits to help you get healthier and stronger teeth:
1. Brush Twice a Day
Grab a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and go to town! Brush twice a day, once in the morning and once at night for two minutes. This helps to remove all of the plaque, bacteria, and leftover food that will lead to cavities.
2. Floss Every Day
Sometimes toothpaste and water can’t clean in between teeth! Flossing removes hidden plaque and food particles in between your teeth. You should floss every day without exception or excuse.
3. Limit Sugar and Acidic Foods
Eating and drinking sweet and acidic foods all day feeds the bacteria in our mouths that continually weakens enamel. Try to limit candy or sweets to meals or before brushing your teeth (hello gum!)
4. Drink fluoridated water
Water flushes food particles and acids. Fluoride strengthens enamel and improves tooth formation and it can even help reverse early cavities through hydration and drinking fluoridated water.
5. Chew sugarless gum after every meal
Chewing increases saliva which neutralizes bad acids and cleans teeth in between brushing.
6.Eat Tooth-Foliage Foods
Tooth-foliage foods consist mainly of calcium-rich foods (dairy products and leafy greens) and crunchy fruits and vegetables that stimulate salivation and scrub the surfaces.
7. Go to the Dentist Regularly
We will have regular checkups, cleanings, and patient education, and we want to be able to discover decay/failure as soon as possible; your dentist can keep you and your dentist healthy if you see them.
If you stay on these habits closely you could tremendously decrease your risk of cavities to keep you smiling for eternity
