Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and popular Tamil film actor Vijay has been lodged in a police complaint following a complaint that claimed that he and his henchmen physically assaulted a man at a political meeting in Perambalur district.
On the basis of a complainant filed by Sarathkumar, Kunnam Police have registered the case saying that whenever Sarathkumar tried to check on Vijay to get a closer look at the actor-politician, his security staff beat him up. The incident was happened on 21st August while Vijay was speaking with supporters during one of his campaign events leading to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
A video was circulated in social media. In the video, security agents were pushing a man off the stage, which was almost seven feet high, while shooing away several others who tried to reach the TVK leader. Following the incident, Sarathkumar lodged a formal complaint, leading to a case being registered against Vijay and his bouncers under sections 189(2), 296(B), and 115(I) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to unlawful assembly and abetment of an offence punishable with life imprisonment or death.
The case follows closely on the heels of Vijay’s big-ticket Maanadu (political meet) in Madurai, which saw a huge turnout of close to four lakh individuals. The rally was TVK’s second major political meet, which saw attention across Tamil Nadu’s political ranks. Speaking to the masses, Vijay had proclaimed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the “sole ideological adversary” of TVK, labelling the ruling DMK a “political adversary.” Vijay blamed the BJP for foisting policy measures such as the NEET exam on Tamil Nadu without regard for the realities of the state’s social and economic conditions. He also charged that the DMK had been secretly in understanding with the BJP despite public resistance.
Complementing the political rumour, Vijay gave a hint at contesting the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from the Madurai East constituency. His comments created a buzz among residents locally, including women farm laborers and day wage workers, who expressed their support for the actor-politician. Most stated that they were disenchanted with the DMK as well as the AIADMK and were willing to follow Vijay, some even likening his popularity to that of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran (MGR).
While debate over crowd management at political rallies has been initiated by the Perambalur case, TVK leadership remains tight-lipped on an official response. While legal challenges stand one side and rising public interest tugs on the other, Vijay’s political career is set to be one of the most monitored tales leading up to the 2026 elections.
