Ahmedabad mourns a Class 10 student as chilling chats of the accused emerge.
An Ahmedabad, Gujarat, school scene was gone horror when a fight outside the Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in Khokhra escalated to the reported stabbing death of Class 10 student, Nayan, from his junior. The horrific incident occurred on Tuesday, August 19 and has raised national condemnations, protests, and an apparent need to address students violence that has been reportedly on the rise.
According to reports, the fight was instigated by an earlier fight between the two students, approximately a week earlier. Nayan had just exited school on Tuesday afternoon, a Class 8 junior and some boys attacked him near the school gate. It was reported that a heated argument among the boys broke out and apparently ended up in a brawl. In a more horrific twist reported, the Class 8 student allegedly produced a knife among the commotion and stabbed Nayan in the abdomen and ran off.
The reports continued and CCTV footage showed Nayan entering the school campus, hand over to his bleeding stomach, and then falling down. Nayan was seemingly taken to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries approximately at 3 am Wednesday morning. Nayan’s eventual death sparked massive protests by locals, parents, and Hindu groups vandalizing the school and reportedly attacking school staff. The police were subsequently able to make the situation under control.

After the murder, parents of the victim and social organizations filed complaints against the school management and principal, seeking responsibility for the lapse in security. The District Education Officer has served a notice to the school, asking it to explain in detail how the event happened and why the injured student managed to gain entry into the campus unhindered after the attack. Gujarat Education Minister Prafulbhai Panseriya has mourned the death of the student and promised strict action along with suggesting a study on why crimes committed by children are on the rise.
The police probe found a shocking Instagram chat between the accused minor, whose handle is museffff.ms, and his friend. During the chat, the boy seemed to confess to stabbing his senior.
The chat was as follows:
Friend: Bhai tumne kuch kiya aj? (Brother, did you do something today?)
Accused: Haan. (Yes.)
Friend: Bhai tumne chaku mara tha? (Brother, did you stab someone?)
Accused: Teko kisne bola? (Who told you?)
Friend: Call pe baat karte. Chat pe ye sab nahi. (Let’s talk on call, not on chat.)
Accused: Abhi bada bhai saath me hai. Usko nahi khabar. (I’m with my elder brother. He doesn’t know what happened.)
Friend: Vo mar gaya shayad. (He (the victim) might have died.)
This dialogue has caused further panic regarding the attitude of juveniles committing crimes of violence.
